Semester of Service

Every semester the Center for College and Community Service publishes over 50 service events for groups of Durham Tech students, faculty, and staff. Volunteering at Semester of Service events is a great way to make new friends and help your community!

Reccurring Service Events

Help stock, organize, and clean the Campus Harvest Food Pantry.

Beekeeping and Gardening at Briggs Avenue Community Garden
Designated Fridays from 8 or 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.

Gardening: Maintain Durham Tech’s garden plots to grow produce that helps stock the Campus Harvest Food Pantry. Be sure to bring water, wear closed-toe shoes, and to wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.

Beekeeping: Volunteer to tend Briggs Avenue Community Garden's bee hives. No experience necessary. Beekeeping suits and hats are provided. Volunteers will be led by professional beekeepers. Please note that beekeeping days start at 8:00 a.m.

Work days still take place in light rain, but will be canceled in heavy rain. A cancellation message will be sent through SignUp.com if a work day is canceled due to weather. You may park on the side of the street. Please use caution when exiting and entering your vehicles due to oncoming traffic.

MLK Service Projects

Friday, January 18, 1–4, p.m.
Honor Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy this year by serving your community. Students and employees are invited to take part in our special Friday afternoon service projects.

Off-Campus Service Project at Burton Elementary School
Roll up your sleeves for a little cleaning and painting! We are looking for volunteers to bright up a lounge space for the teachers at Burton Elementary School and to paint benches for the children. Limited spots available. Register online in advance to reserve your spot on our off-campus service project team.

On-Campus Service Project: Crafternoon for a Cause
Use your creativity to help your community! Volunteers are invited to take part in three special Crafternoon projects in the Cafe at Durham Tech. No need to register for this project.

Projects include:

  • No Sew Tie Blankets for children through Project Linus
  • Chemo Port Pillows for distribution to local hospitals
  • Plarn Balls for creating Sleeping Mats out of Plastic bags for distribution to the homeless
