Continuing Education Procedures

Admission

Admission to all publicly offered Adult, Corporate Education, and Continuing Education programs is open to adults 18 years and older on a first-come, space-available basis unless special admission requirements must be met. Payment of registration fees and any additional fees must also be made prior to attending class. See the college’s noncredit course schedule for current registration fees. All high school students who participate in concurrent enrollment must be at least 16 years old.

Registration Options

Payment must be received before the first class. There are four ways to register:

  • Online

    Online registration is available for most courses. Refer to course descriptions for information. You do not require a WebAdvisor account or to login to register. Please note that payments will be listed on your credit card statements as OPC DURHAM CC.

  • By mail

Fees

Course fees are noted with each course listing. Payment of these course fees is required before the first class session. Some courses have additional charges for supplies, insurance, or other essential expenses, which are also noted along with the course descriptions. In most courses, students are responsible for purchasing any special materials required for the class. No registration is complete without the payment of all applicable fees or receipt of official authorization for payment from the registrant's employer.

College access, parking, and security fee (CAPS Fee) is $5 per class for a maximum of $15 per semester. A computer use and technology fee is $5 per Continuing Education course.

Please be aware that Durham Tech verifies checks and credit cards to ensure that accounts are active and in good standing.

Self-Support Courses

Some courses are offered by the college on a self-support basis, which means they are not conducted with state funding. The fees for these courses vary. Registration fee exemptions do not apply to self-support courses.


Course Cancellations and Refunds for Noncredit Courses

Durham Tech reserves the right to cancel courses, change meeting places, or make other necessary and appropriate changes to the noncredit schedule. Courses that have not met minimum enrollment three days prior to the start date may be canceled. Please review the Course Cancellation and Refund Procedure in the policies and procedures section.


Continuing Education Unit (CEU)

Durham Technical Community College is authorized to award continuing education units (CEU) for the successful completion of noncredit Occupational Extension/Continuing Education courses. One CEU is defined as “10 contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education program under responsible sponsorship, capable direction, and qualified instruction.” The number of CEUs awarded for a course is recorded on the Continuing Education transcript and on the certificate of completion. The CEU is widely accepted as a recognized standard of professional development.

Disability Services

Students who require academic accommodation s due to any physical, psychological, or learning disability are encouraged to request assistance from a disability services counselor within the first two weeks of class. Likewise, students who potentially require emergency medical attention due to any chronic health condition are encouraged to disclose this information to a disability services counselor within the first two weeks of class.
